2. Updates on CAPBAK/Web Product
* CAPBAK/Web [IE] Ver. 1.4 Downloadable: You can now download the early
release version of CAPBAK/Web [IE] Ver. 1.4 for Windows 95/NT. This
version requires that you have a copy of IE 4.0 or later installed on
your machine. You can use your existing CAPBAK/Web key or use the
online form to request a new access key.
CAPBAK/Web is a fully featured Web Browser that is test enabled. It
records and plays user sessions in both true-time AND object mode.
Scripts recorded with actual user-level delays are played back at the
same speed. Or, scripts created manually (or edited from live
recordings) can play back at varying speeds.
There is a 1 msec. resolution timer facility built into it so you can
use a playback to measure response times from a client in a realistic
manner. (The P4+ suite is an example of this use; see below). You can
run dozens of copies of CAPBAK/Web on a client machine to simulate
multiple users and drive the workload on your server.
* SMARTS Works With CAPBAK/Web: The Windows 95/NT versions of SMARTS have
now been upgraded to allow you to program calls from SMARTS to either
CAPBAK/MSW or CAPBAK/Web. One or multiple CAPBAK/Web tests organized in
a tree structure under SMARTS control can exercise any URL from a client
site.
* P4/P4+ Suites: We have developed a test suite for our P4 and P4+
metrics analysis. P4 and P4+ perform timing analyses from typical user
sites on a selected set of websites -- the top-20 web portal sites. You
can look at these two suites' outputs at:
<http://www.soft.com/Products/Web/CAPBAK/pppp.html>
and
<http://www.soft.com/Products/Web/CAPBAK/pppp.plus.html>
* Free Offer to Build 2-Deep Suites: We will be pleased to construct a
2-Deep Suite for any URL that you provide us. A 2-Deep Suite consists
of the SMARTS ATS file, and the set of keysave files for use by
CAPBAK/Web that exercises the specified URL and all of the links that
are pointed to by that URL. (It's "2-Deep" because the test tree is two
layers in depth when viewed by SMARTS.)
To have us build you a 2-Deep Suite simply send Email to us at
and state the URL you want your 2-Deep Suite to apply
to. Or, you can do this from the SR/TestWorks WebSite at this URL:
<http://www.soft.com/Products/Web/CAPBAK/2deep.request.html>
3. New QuickStart Notes for CAPBAK/MSW, SMARTS/MSW
Based on customer feedback and extensive in-house reviews, we have revised
the contents of the QuickStart manuals for both the CAPBAK/MSW and the
SMARTS/MSW products.
Both revised application notes are available from the download area and
also are included in the product package.
4. New SCO 3/5 Build Up On WebSite
We have completed builds of the TestWorks product line for SCO ODT 3 and
ODT 5 environments and have put these new bundles on the WebSite for
downloading.
The downloads include the most-recent versions of TestWorks/Regression,
TCAT/C-C++, TCAT for Java, and TestWorks/Advisor. The downloads are
available directly from:
<http://www.soft.com/Products/Downloads/down.sco.html>
5. Technical Point Of Contact (TPOC)
Our records show _you_ as the person acting as the Technical Point Of
Contact (TPOC) for TestWorks information for your organization. If that's
correct there's nothing to be done; you'll continue to receive this memo by
email.
The TPOC is the main person in charge of receiving information about all
TestWorks products at your installation. This person might be your
system-admin or the TPOC might best be the test lead. There can be several
TPOC's for a TestWorks installation.
Please email all changes, corrections, and additions to users@soft.com.
Please include your CID number in your email.
6. Continuing Items
Here are some continuing items from prior SIL memos that we think you
should be kept aware of:
o Software Incident Report If you are having TestWorks Product trouble
of any kind, our WebSite includes a comprehensive Software Incident
Report that can be used to report any problem or suggestion about any
TestWorks product. We record incidents in our internal defect
tracker and then issue you a ``ticket number'' (our internal tracking
number) so that you can keep tabs on the progress of the resolution
of your problem. See:
<http://www.soft.com/Support/incident.html>
o Maintenance/Support Fees Increased Due to increased costs and
generally in keeping with industry practice, TestWorks
support/maintenance fees are being increased to +20% of the license
fee per year, effective 1 July 1997.
o TTN-Online Subscriptions If you are not already subscribing, all you
have to do is send email with the word "subscribe" in the body of the
message to ttn@soft.com to join the ~5,500+ readers of our TTN-Online
monthly newsletter. To subscribe from the WebSite go to:
<http://www.soft.com/News/TTN-Online/subscribe.html>
